I've been a little quiet on the product review front recently but I'm back with my review of the Shady Rays Signature Series polarized sunglasses. Just in time for spring! Before we get into my thoughts on the shades themselves, I want to point out a few important features of the Shady Rays brand.
The Shady Rays Mission
Taken right from their website, Shay Rays is "an Independent Sunglasses Company that is focused on one thing - Making the best shades for 24/7 action." Part of this mission means that every pair of Shady Rays comes with a lifetime warranty that covers replacement sunglasses for any and all issues that may be a result of a manufacturing error. Where Shady Rays take it a step further, they'll also replace any pair of lost or broken sunglasses for free, you just pick up the cost of shipping.
Apart from a killer warranty and replacement policy, Shady Rays also provide food for families in need through Feeding America. With every order placed with Shady Rays, they secure 10 meals to help fight hunger. It's definitely nice to know that apart from the killer shades you receive, your order also helps contribute to a more meaningful cause.
Fit & Comfort
As for the actual review, the primary factor I look for in my sunglasses is a comfortable fit. Often on a run, I'm wearing a hat, headphones, and a pair of sunglasses so I need everything to fit together comfortably. The signature series shades are lightweight enough that you don't notice them while running but they're also secure enough that they're not bouncing around on your face.
The Lenses
I'm not gentle with my sunglasses by any means. They get tossed around countertops, car cup holders, and thrown into random gym bag pockets so I'm very appreciative of the shatter-resistant lenses that come with Shady Rays sunglasses.
Apart from the durability, I also really like how light the shade of the lenses is. The lenses of shady rays are light enough that I can wear them on overcast days without making my surroundings too dark. They're also protective enough that even when running on fresh snow, they block out the intense glare reflecting off the ground.
Price
Ranging from $35-$60 (depending on what features you select) these make a great "everyday" pair of sunglasses. I say every day because their style makes them perfect for a casual lifestyle but functionally they're great during athletic activities as well.
I tend to be pretty frugal when it comes to sunglasses, and although Shady Rays are a bit higher than my typical price tag, it definitely helps to know the money goes towards supporting a worthy cause. Even without the charitable contribution, it also helps to know that if I do manage to break or lose my sunglasses, I can get a replacement pair for free.
