I recently made a trip to visit some friends in Atlanta and I was able to pick up some great beer from the state of Georgia. Over the next month I will be reviewing my loot, so here is week 3! Check out WEEK 1 and WEEK 2.

Emergency Drinking Beer - Pils Style Session Ale

There’s an emergency – it’s hot as hell outside. Summer is officially upon us and it hit 97 degrees in Florida this past week, with feels like temps pushing 106. When it’s that hot the only thing in my emergency preparedness kit is a 6-pack of Emergency Drinking Beer by Wild Heaven Craft Beers.

Marketed as a sessionable pilsner mixed with a gose, Emergency Drinking Beer is made with citrus zest, sea salt, and lemongrass. If you are confused by that, I don’t blame you. But what is not confusing is that the final result is thirst-quenching and tasty.

While it is not as crisp as a pilsner or as salty as a gose, I find the result to be unique and enjoyable. At 4% ABV, it starts smooth and clean and finishes with light fruity and salty notes. Purists may be turned off by a mixing of styles, but there are few beers I would rather have with me during my summer activities.

Wild Heaven has used the success of the pretty can and delicious beer to help build its brand. Located just outside Atlanta in Avondale Estates, they opened up in 2014 and have quickly added to the conversation in Georgia brewing.

They strive to make beers that are creative and distinctive yet very approachable, something that really shines through with Emergency Drinking Beer. I look forward to whatever comes my way this summer as long as I have some with me.
