10 Best Instagram Accounts for Runners 2019
A little over a year ago I posted my 10 Best Instagram Accounts for Runners which has actually been one of my most popular posts so I figured I should probably update the list for the new year. Whether you're looking for some running motivation or just something to distract you at work, here's a list of my favorite running Instagram accounts for 2019!
10. @TheBeerRunner
The Beer Runner was one of the first sources of inspiration and motivation for me after starting I RUN ON BEER for obvious reasons, and has continued to be one of my favorite accounts to follow. More recently, The Beer Runner shared a post about dialing back on the "beering" side of things to focus more on running and fitness and that journey has been just as exciting to follow. If you're not following @TheBeerRunner currently on Instagram, do yourself a favor and fix that now.
9. @HarryRuns
Harry Runs is the first of the ultra runners that made my top ten and is definitely worth following for anyone who's interested in trying their first ultra. His running resume and accomplishments are incredible on their own but he also provides a TON of great info to novice runners. He's a running coach as well so he works plenty of advice and tips into his posts. I'm also a huge fan of the content he's putting out on YouTube.
8. @TrainingForUltra
Training for Ultra (Rob) is another inspiring ultra runner who I found through his podcast of the same name. Rob is a proud "middle of the pack crusher" and is an incredible source of inspiration. Since starting running as a way to boost his overall health and fitness, he's continued to push himself further every year and just completed the Moab240 this past year. In 2019 he's planning to tackle the triple crown of 200s and I can't wait to follow his journey along the way.
7. @TheRunnerBeans
I tried not to include too many repeats from last year's list of accounts to follow but I couldn't leave Charlie from @TheRunnerBeans out. The Runner Beans is another run/blogger that I found early on after starting I RUN ON BEER and is worth following on all social channels as well as on her blog. She's great at not only showcasing incredible accomplishments but also sharing the real struggles and challenges that runners face.
6. @CMocko
The only reason Chris Mocko didn't make it higher on my list is that he doesn't post on Instagram super consistently. That being said, he recently quit his job to pursue ultra-running full-time and it looks like his progress through 2019 will be a great journey to follow. He just recently took 2nd at the Bandera 100k which has guaranteed him a spot in the Western States 100 later this year! You can also check out his hilarious YouTube channel, The Mocko Show.
5. #BibRavePro & #BibChat
Last year I included @BibRave which is still definitely still worth following but since last year, Instagram also started allowing users to follow hashtags. There are just too many incredible Bib Rave Pros to choose from so why not include all of them by following the #BibRavePro and #BibChat hashtags!
4. @WalmsleyRuns
Jim Walsmley has been pushing the boundaries of ultra running for a while now and just broke the course record at Western States this year. Walsmley's got an iconic smile featured prominently on his account which is sure to help get you motivated for your next run. I can't wait to see what course he's planning to crush next!
3. @RunTheSix
Top 3 here we go! Are you looking for stunning mid-stride running shots all throughout the streets of Toronto? Look no further than Run the Six! He started working his way through the six marathon majors in the spring of 2016 and so far has completed four with only Tokyo and London left. Another runner who does a great job sharing his story on Instagram, I can't wait to see where he's headed in 2019!
2. @Des_Linden
Des Linden was an obvious addition to my list for so many reasons. If you're not familiar with her story from the Boston Marathon this year, stop reading this post right now and go get caught up... Okay, now that you're familiar with her story, I don't think you need any other reasons to follow her. She is such a cool, down-to-earth, super athlete. She's pretty active on Instagram stories as well and offers a bit of a behind-the-scenes view of her life. She also recently commented on one of my posts (a huge personal win for me)!
1. @Tommy_Rivs
My top account to follow was an easy choice this year, @tommy_rivs, one of my all-time favorite Instagram accounts. I'm envious of his running, his travel, his BEARD, pretty much every aspect of his life ha. I don't remember how I first found him but he's got such a motivational yet humble attitude towards everything. If you've got some time, Training for Ultra actually has a great podcast interview with him as well. @tommy_rivs on Instagram is absolutely a must-follow!
So there you have it, my recommendations for the ten best Instagram accounts for runners to follow in 2019. It was really tough narrowing it down to just ten so let me know some of your favorites in the comments. Hopefully, we can keep building the list so that runners have plenty of accounts to add for some boosted inspiration this year!
